TDr. Linda Maepa and
TDr. Rob Ferber
Linda (they/Gogo/she) & Rob (he/Mkhulu) are sangomas, scientists, (grand)parents, inventors, entrepreneurs, farmers, engineers, and polymaths. Linda homeschooled their now-adult kids and now their youngest. They live, work, and care for a large plant library across the California Bay Area and in Southern California. Their home is a work of research and labor of love for adaptation of farm crops in a warming world under agroforestry conditions. Linda splits their time between California and South Africa with their work on African healthcare systems while Rob spends his time not-teaching on infrastructure and transportation engineering.
They met at Caltech where they trained as Earth scientists with a focus on bioinformatics, phylogenetics, and evolution of physical conditions of life (Linda) and genetics, evolutionary biology, and geophysics & remote sensing (Rob). Linda has a BS in Geology (Geobiology) and Rob is former Faculty of Botany at Claremont Graduate University’s Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden.
