Class Description
What are earthquakes? How do they affect our cities, shape the landscape, and impact plant & animal life? We will spend a day answering these questions and more on a road trip through a rural California town and using a nearby national park as an outdoor classroom. Along the way we will explore how geology impacts and shapes life on the surface and subsurface of the Earth’s crust, including humans.
Learning Objectives
This trip is the introductory field class for an arc of five (5) classes called Introduction to Field Sciences. Students will:
- Acquire and practice observational skills relating to field sciences (geology, biology, ecology, botany, and mycology) [K-12]
- Learn core concepts relating to field sciences [K-12]; how to recognise these concepts in the field [5-12]; and/or analyse them from an integrated perspective based upon field observations [8-12]
- Describe how the factors creating, affecting, and/or being affected by Pinnacles National Park relate to their own thoughts & experiences in the field or elsewhere [K-12]
